HOW-TO SET A STUNNING TABLE ON A BUDGET
With the economy being what it is this holiday season, many of us do not have it in our budgets to spend alot on the extras. Yet this should not be a deterrent for making your home look gorgeous. Dressing up the turkey is not just about the stuffing and the seasonings, it’s also about creating a beautiful destination for its arrival.
The table is the center of attention during Thanksgiving, as the Christmas Tree is during Christmas. The table you see above was not difficult to put together. All we did was get a bit creative, and for the most part, use existing items.
IVORY AND CHOCOLATE PLATES
Would you believe this plate is not porcelain? That right, it’s not. It’s made of plastic and it is disposable. What I like best about these plates is that, not only are they inexpensive, but they do not bleed through onto your new outfit. I promise you are going to love them as much as I did. You can find them on SmartyHadAParty.com
GLASSES
I already had all these glasses in my china cabinet and I assume you have yours. The glasses do not need to come from the same collection, the table actually looks a bit more whimsical if they are different. There are two rules: 1) make sure the glasses are of three different heights and 2) that they are of the same finish. If you do not want to put out your really good crystal, because you are certain Uncle Joe will break one before the evening is over, don’t panic. Plastic wine glasses are available and they really, really look real.
COLORFUL YET ENJOYABLE CANDLES
To the naked eye these candles are as waxy and flickery as any other candle. Once in your hands, though, you realize they are not real burning candles, they are actually battery operated. They come in an assortment of colors as well as sizes. If you like them as much as I do, you can find them on EnjoyLighting.com
LEAF SHAPED PLACE MATES
Most place mats are square and predictable. I wanted something a bit more playful and seasonal. I took a new felt pillow case from my cousin’s closet and cut it in half. I then took paper from my daughter’s easel and drew a leaf; on the third try I got the drawing of the leaf right. I cut the paper into the shape of the leaf and pinned it to the fabric. Once the fabric was cut I did a bit more cutting to get it to where I was happy. They look beautiful. However, take into account that cutting is time consuming.
PINE CONE HANDMADE PLACE CARDS
The best way to keep family or friends who don’t really like each other from sitting next to one another is by controlling who sits next to whom. I took cinnamon-smelling pine cones and placed names on them with a simple ribbon.
THE CUTLERY
The flatware- silver replica is as inexpensive as it is disposable; it”s a top notch plastic cutlery made to look expensive. You can not tell that it”s not the real thing until you hold it in your hands. It could be found on SmartyHadAParty.com
TABLE LINEN
We all dream of a beautiful table cloth. Women have been known to spend not only money but months searching for the right one only to be disappointed when, after the meal, they discover it has been ruined by a stubborn stain. This table cloth is disposable, inexpensive and comes in many sizes and colors. It could be found on SmartyHadAParty .com
CENTER PIECE
Take an existing tall clear vase and dress it up with seasonal leaves, nuts, dried fruits and twigs and I promise yours will look just as striking as mine. What makes this Thanksgiving center piece different from others is that it is not made of flowers. I created it by choosing an autumn theme and going au natural with dried element such as twigs, leaves and fruits. Don’t forget to have fun while you are putting it together.
FINAL TIP
Don’t forget your cleaning products!
