Hola mi gente,
So I spent the weekend at my mum’s house and every time I go over she wants me to prepare one of my healthy recipes. Unfortunately, I was not feeling my best so I had to politely decline. My cousin, however was having himself a jam session, and by that I mean he was making homemade jam. Now, me being the person I am, I had to totally get in on this. I love homemade jam. Whenever my hubby has a job in Amish, country he brings me tons of homemade jams and I tell you it’s the best thing you can put on your pan! I wanted you all to have a taste of this amazing condiment (is jam really a condiment?) and learn how to make it for your friends and family. I am going to give you guys a simple recipe that you start off with. Hopefully after you have mastered this a few times you can try different fruits and techniques. I really hope you guys enjoy this as much as we did.
What you need:
– 2 pounds fresh strawberries (hulled)
– 4 cups white sugar
– ¼ cup lemon juice
What you do:
In a wide bowl, crush strawberries in batches until you have 4 cups of mashed berry.
In a heavy bottomed saucepan, mix together the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
Stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Increase heat to high, and bring the mixture to a full rolling boil.
Boil, stirring often, until the mixture reaches 220 degrees F (105 degrees C). Transfer to hot sterile jars, leaving 1/4 to 1/2 inch headspace, and seal. Process in a water bath.
If the jam is going to be eaten right away, don’t bother with processing, and just refrigerate.
As always mi gente share, share, share.
