Dining Room Chandelier – How to Find the Right Size Dining Room Chandelier

A chandelier is often the focal point in a dining room, so it’s important to get one that not only works well with your décor but is also the right size.

While there are no hard and fast rules, there are a few guidelines that will help you find the right match.

One suggestion is that the diameter of the dining room chandelier should be about one half to two thirds the width of the table it will be hanging over. Another is that it should be about a foot less than the width of the table at it’s widest point. (In many cases these measurements will be the same). One of the main reasons for this is so that people don’t bump their heads on it when getting up from their seats.

If this just isn’t possible it’s better to go bigger with the dining room chandelier size than smaller. You can always hang it a bit higher so that no one gets hurt.

Another guideline to try to adhere to is that the chandelier’s length should not allow it to be closer than four feet from any wall.

Really it shouldn’t be closer than 48 inches to any piece of furniture such as a cabinet or sideboard. This will obviously not be possible for smaller spaces, but it’s a good rule of thumb to keep in mind.
