UPDATE: Well I am back from LATISM energized and more amazed than ever at the dedication, creativity and commitment of the Latina and Latino blogger world. These are hermanos and hermanas on a mission – whether it be politics, education, health, lifestyle, and much more. They are commited to providing an amazing array of information that honors the Latino world view and experiences. And we are all richer for it. Would it have been nice to win the Best Lifestyle Blogger award? Of course it would. I would be dishonest If I said otherwise. Yet I did come home a winner because I gained a world of knowledge, inspiration and a renewed sense of mission and purpose.
And I would like to give a BIG shout out to the winner of the Best Latina Lifestyle blogger award, Monique Frausto, founder of curves and chaos! Congratulations, Chica! I was told you would be hard to beat by a blogger colleague:)
I just landed in Houston, TX to attend the LATISM (Latinos in Social Media) awards!
This has been a whirlwind week. On Saturday I learned that I won a free conference pass from the LB Connect giveaway – my first ever giveaway win – and on Monday I learned that I was nominated for a LATISM award in the category of Best Lifestyle Blogger! To say I am touched is an understatement. When Marlene and I launched Casa Latina I didn’t realize we had joined a society of super smart, super passionate Latino and Latinas on a similar journey.
Ours is to create a platform where we offer culturally-relevant home-and-lifestyle information -in both English and Spanish – that reflects the Latina experience in the United States. Yes Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray are great. But they are not Latina and they cannot speak to our experiences and aspirations as it relates to our home and lifestyles. We can and we do. Yet we are not unique. The next two days will be filled with Latinos and Latinas on their own respective missions, in education, in health, in politics in tech, in pretty much every imaginable area of life. And they are as passionate and committed as Marlene and I are.
To be nominated ‘best’ in my category – Lifestyle – among these titans of heart and dedication brings tears to my eyes. This nomination has given me a renewed sense of purpose and the continuing drive to keep steady on the journey. And win or lose ( though for the record I want to WIN!) I will look back on this as a signature moment.
So Thank You to all who nominated me! Un fuerte abrazo y besos:)
END NOTE: At the risk of sounding like a politician (Yikes!) I do ask for your vote. And in turn I promise to continue to give you my all. Voting is super easy and quick. Just click in this link and the Best Lifestyle Blogger category is the second one:
