If you’re like me, the thought of a Piña Colada has you conjuring up images of a tropical beach vacation where the only thing to worry about is what number SPF sunblock to apply.  But there is no rule that says that Piña Coladas are only for vacations.

So break out the blender and try DonQ Gold’s original  recipe on family and friends this Memorial Day Weekend!  Those of you thinking, “No thanks, way too many calories for me,” can try DonQ’s two “skinny” riffs on the classic and still get into that bathing suit!

Here’s A Fun Factoid On The History Of The Pina Colada

In 1954, Ramon “Monchito” Marrero Perez introduced customers of the Caribe Hilton’s Beachcomber Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico to the piña colada, meaning ‘strained pineapple.’ According to legend, Ramon found himself in the possession of a new product, Coco López, cream of coconut. After experimenting for three months, he mixed it with DonQ Gold Rum and pineapple, blending with ice for texture and temperature. The drink was an immediate hit with the hotel’s star-studded clientele and the piña colada became an island staple.
