Add A Little ‘Spirit’ To This Weekend’s Holiday Cookout

The longest vacation I have had in my adult life was my two week Luna de Miel on that bit of paradise called Hawaii. Timewise it doesn’t compare to whole summers away in the Dominican Republic or Miami, but the idea of adults having a whole summer away is a story for another post! Qualitywise Hawaii is amazing place to visit for however long you have.  The people, the love of food, the warmth, the Aloha spirit, in many respects it reminds me of Hispanic culture…welcoming.  It is a memory my husband and I will cherish for the rest of our lives.

So when I recently learned of these libation recipes from Halekulani, Waikiki’s legendary beachfront hotel, I thought, “Why not for this Memorial Day weekend”?  They have that island feel and are, in moderation, the perfect addition to a holiday weekend BBQ, regardless of where you are.  We will be celebrating with my dear friend, her family, and her nephew, Johnny, who is on leave from the Navy. We are blessed to have the opportunity to share a day with family and friends and for the opportunity to thank Johnny for his service.  And we will be doing it Latin Style, with lots of laughter!

If you are having a Memorial Day Weekend Fiesta give one of these tasty cocktail a try.  And don’t forget to rise up your glass to toast our brave service men and women!
